Samsung to spend $73bn on chip capex and R&D

TSMC expects  to spend $52-56 billion on capex and $7 billion on R&D this year.

Intel’s capex budget is expected to be around $9 billion this year with an R&D budget of around $16 billion

Samsung is working to get its 2nm process and its foundry business back on track after a yield blip when it moved to GAA transistors and BYPD.

Recent deals for foundry with Elon Musk and talks of a possible foundry deal with AMD suggest that the tech is stabilising.

Samsung will target its $73 billion on AI-related areas like processor chiplets and HBM where it has had recent success with HBM4 supply deals with Nvidia, OpenAI and AMD.

It is said that it will pursue M&A in fields like robotics and auto.
