China plan for 80% semiconductor self-sufficiency

China had around 33% self-sufficiency in 2024, so 80% by 2030 is ambitious.

An earlier plan called Made in China 2025 aimed for 70% by 2025 but fell well short.

As well as 80% self-sufficiency, the new plan has set a 2030 goal for having built and tested a 7nm production line using entirely domestically produced equipment.

Another goal is achieving stable production of 14nm ICs.

The China government already requires that new fab installations contain 50% domestic equipment.

China’s share of global production capacity is projected by SEMI to  grow from 25% in 2024 to 42% in 2028.
