Assassin's Creed Shadows "True Ending" Sparks Speculation of Sequel or DLC

Ubisoft recently released what it called the final update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was meant to give fans one final hurrah for the characters of Naoe and Yasuke with a Black Flag Resynced tie-in to see them off. It seems as though this might not be the case, however. As archived Zephryss in a clip on X, Naoe and Yasuke’s story ends with the pair pondering what to do with the MacGuffin that has thus far driven the plot of the game forward, and instead of ending on decision, Naoe proposes that they might seek out the Brotherhood of Assassins “one day.” This open-ended conclusion to the story of Yasuke and Naoe’s chapter in the Brotherhood’s history suggests that there may be more to come, and fans have been speculating just that.

At the same time, in its announcement of the “Black Tides” update Ubisoft said that it was trying to fix parts of the AC Shadows story that “didn’t resonate” with the community, and in recent reports about the next Assassin’s Creed game, it was revealed that the new game would be much more like a classic Assassin’s Creed game than the open-world affairs we’ve seen more recently, and that Ezio would be making a comeback in some form or another, suggesting that Ubisoft may be planning to weave the different Assassin’s Creed stories together more cohesively. Famously, Ezio’s trilogy is the only real example of an Assassin’s Creed protagonist returning to the franchise in multiple games. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that Naoe and Yasuke will return in a future game or that another DLC will launch later on to expand their story.
