Rapidus gets another $4bn | Electronics Weekly

The ministry’s subordinate body the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) said the money would be used to support 2nm IC design projects by Fujitsu and IBM.
The Rapidus development fab in Hokkaido (pictured ) has been inspected and approved, said Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa, at the weekend.
A test facility has been established in Chitose, Hokkaido to analyse Rapidus’ chips in an attempt to lift yields, and operations to set up a backend process development centre have begun..
In February, the company announced that it had raised $1.7 billion from 32 private-sector companies with $634m of that coming from the government.
Rapidus projects that it will need over $44.4 billion by fiscal year 2031, with about $19 billion expected to come from the private sector in financing backed by government guarantees.
The company is looking for an IPO around FY 2031.
