Microsoft Previews DirectX Crash Dump Feature for Game Devs
Microsoft on Friday released a feature that lets game developers better assess game crashes at the graphics API level, with the new DirectX Dump feature. Released as a preview, the feature requires support from GPU vendors in the form of graphics driver-level awareness. AMD released a preview driver for Radeon GPUs to support this feature. When enabled, the feature gathers and outputs a detailed DirectX runtime crash dump file with the file extension “.dxdmp,” which the game’s crash-handler can upload to the game developer. Game developers can then use PIX (Performance Investigator for Xbox) to analyze dxdmp files.
