Samsung Foundry opens for photonics orders

Samsung says it has opened a foundry service for  photonic integrated circuits (PICs) integrating  modulators, waveguides, photodiodes and memory and has a PDK currently available for potential customers..

The company says it will be expanding its photonics offer to optical  engines in 2027, hybrid bonding in 2028 and  co-packaged optics (CPO) by 2029.

Samsung said its  modulator achieved data transmission speeds of 224 Gbps per lane as measured  by imec.

The  optical modules, at  200Gbps per lane, will enable 800 Gbps devices with four lanes and 1.6 Tbps (1.6T) with eight lanes.
