PhotonPath and Xiver hook up for Oxyn production

The partnership enables the transition of Oxyn manufacturing to Xiver’s 200 mm wafer infrastructure, expanding wafer capacity, improving lead times, and ensuring consistent, repeatable quality for high-performance photonic devices.

Oxyn is PhotonPath’s integrated photonics platform for telecom and datacom applications. It blends Silicon Nitride and Planar Lightwave Circuit technologies (PLC), delivering low‑loss waveguides (0.1 dB/cm), high power handling, tight bending radius down to 300 um, and low coupling losses of 0.1 dB with UHNA fibres.

Standard waveguides are polarisation-insensitive, eliminating the need for polarization diversity schemes, while hybrid waveguides allow controlled polarization rotation and multiplexing. Efficient thermal actuators provide precise tuning and reconfigurability to the products.

PhotonPath brings experience in integrated photonics design, manufacturing transfer, and platform development. Its team has built Oxyn from the ground up and has extensive know-how across multiple integrated photonic technologies, combining chip-level design, control electronics, calibration routines, and system-level integration.

XIVER provides a mature manufacturing environment that is tightly aligned with the demands of advanced photonic platforms. Building on decades of semiconductor and MEMS process development, XIVER has long supported photonics relevant technologies through extensive work in thin film deposition, complex material stacks, precision etching, and wafer level integration.

With the ability to handle nonstandard materials, custom process flows combined with strong statistical process control and manufacturing discipline Xiver delivers the precision, repeatability, and robustness required for integrated photonics at scale and ensures that complex photonic designs can be reliably translated into stable, high volume manufacturing for PhotonPath’s customers.

The strategic collaboration aligns closely with the forthcoming European Chips Act 2, contributing to a stronger European integrated photonics supply chain. It also builds on the support of key ecosystem stakeholders, including PhotonDelta, NFIA, BOM and EPIC, instrumental in fostering cross-border collaboration, investment and industrial scale-up.

“Our platform already delivers a unique mix of features unmatched by other technologies,” says Emanuele Guglielmi, CTO and co‑founder of PhotonPath, “moving to a 200 mm manufacturing environment allows us to extend these capabilities to higher volumes while maintaining tight control over performance and repeatability. It also lays the foundation for our next milestones, including the integration of photodiodes directly into the platform..”
