Amount Of EV Models Catching Up On ICE

The number of EV models available globally more than doubled from 410 in 2020 to 980 in 2026.
By 2029, the IEA expects around 1,250 EV models to be available to consumers worldwide.
Meanwhile, the number of internal combustion engine (ICE) models has dropped from 1,380 in 2020 to 1,330 in 2025. The figure is projected to rise slightly to around 1,340 models by 2029.
Hybrid cars, which combine combustion engines with electric technology, are also expected to continue gaining ground, with the number of models forecast to increase from 110 in 2020 to 240 by 2029.
In India, Tata Motors has emerged as the leading player in the domestic electric passenger vehicle market, with popular models including the Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV and Tata Tiago EV.
