Engineering on Friday ‘toon: Goldie’s Ocean Cleanup

I promise, this is the last environmental campaign cartoon!
The fourth and last in the series features an addition to the animal team, my old goldfish, Goldie. This time she’s imbued with the power of the phoenix, able to collect huge swathes of garbage in the sea.
Ocean cleanup was an area they wanted to focus on. So, they wanted something fun for it. I was kind of under the wire, so I went with my Goldie character model from the video.
“Goldie Fishwater” was my real fish, and the reason I built an internet-controlled fish tank a long time ago. I wanted to see her, feed her manually, and monitor the tank’s stats. I loved that fish!
Check out the project below. However, I only want you to watch two parts—the beginning and ending animations (ending begins at 33:00). I had been drawing Goldie for a year, and desperately wanted to make an animation for the video. Unfortunately, I didn’t know how to animate. So, I went with old-school cutouts and just made a choppy 8-frames-per-second stop-motion video. I used a friend’s Apple Stop Motion Studio, if you’re curious.
Because of the music I chose for the ending animation, Christopher Cross now monetizes my video! You know the song I used…
