Single-Pair Ethernet PHYs Integrate MACsec Security, Time Sensitive Networking and Functional Safety

Single-pair Ethernet (SPE) usage has been on the rise in automotive and industrial applications. It’s found its way into numerous drones and robotics applications.
Microchip’s LAN878x and LAN888x families of SPE PHY transceivers handle the range of implementations, including 100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1, and dual-speed 100/1000BASE-T1. The PHYs support hardware‑based MACsec security compliant with IEEE 802.1AE‑2018 as well as time-sensitive networking (TSN).
The MACsec support delivers frame‑level confidentiality and improved data integrity. It also mitigates replay attacks. TSN provides deterministic and low‑latency Ethernet communication with ISO 26262 ASIL B support for automotive applications.
