SEMI asks US Congress for tax credit extension

SEMI asks US Congress for tax credit extension

AMIC allows a 35% investment tax credit to offset the costs of  US semiconductor companies. It is due to expire in December 2026.

“The AMIC is essential to accelerating semiconductor growth in the US, especially as semiconductor demand from emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum technologies continues to surge,” said Joe Stockunas, President of SEMI Americas.

The letter also said the AMIC should apply across the entire semiconductor value chain, including semiconductor materials, chemicals, and EDA tools.

In July, the US House of Representatives passed President Trump’s budget bill, raising the AMIC for the semiconductor industry from 25% to 35%.

This followed the US Department of the Treasury finalising rules providing a 25% tax credit for certain semiconductor manufacturing investments the previous year.
